Report:
The
month was quiet client wise so it gave me the opportunity to attend
the Australian Fishing Tackle Trade Show held at the Gold Coast.
It
was easily the largest show ever so there was heaps to see, so
much, in fact, that finding enough time to see it all was difficult.
However,
I returned with a few samples to try and caught up with plenty
of old mates. Had a good look over the extensive range of Daiwa
products and they have some exciting gear coming on line, some
of which has already found its way into our daily tackle line
up.
The
estuaries have been suffering a little with the winter ‘chill’
but there have still been a few barras, jacks and salmon about
on the larger tides.
Good
catches of fingermark and trevally have saved the day when things
have gone a bit tough, particularly when the wind is up. A couple
of days break in the wind during David and Emil’s and Ian and
Margaret’s visit, saw us hook into some big Spanish mackerel,
grey mackerel, cobia and trevally offshore but the sharks moved
in a couple of times, particularly when the fish were a bit slow
being brought to the boat.
David landed the best fish, a big Spaniard going close to 20 kilos!
Lure used was one of our favourite Halco Crazy Deeps.
Trolling
the shallow reefs for coral trout, cod and various other reef
species has kept us busy as well. The water temperatures are now
starting to rise and this helped me give singer Troy Cassar-Daley
another great trip when he visited Weipa to perform at the annual
Fun Day.
Troy
and I had a top morning landing a heap of feisty barra, plus trevally,
barracuda and cod, all on cast lures.
Booking
wise, there are still a few spots available in October/November
2005, and the first half (March to June) of 2006 is filling fast.
So
get in early to avoid disappointment.
