19th October

Spent the last couple of weeks up the Cape, lots of sight fishing wading the beaches and sand flats.

Big Queenfish, Giant Herring and Golden Trevally were all on the wish list of the flyboys and we filled that many times over.

I grabbed a few Talon Titanium Blue fly reels from Uncle Barry, number 3's, before the trip and they went like hot cakes, the reels performed very well, excellent drags, super light weight and not too mention excellent value for money.

Blistering runs by big Queenfish and Trevally, on the flats those guys only have one way to go and that's straight out and taking your backing with them. I honestly tried my best to give the reels a work out, they spent time underwater in the sand and with the drag full on and lined up to go again the next day and the next day and so on.

Talon Saltwater hooks held up under lots of pressure, number 2 clousers were rebuilt several times during the week, some of those hooks would have caught a couple of dozen fish and were still going strong.

The white and pink with Barry's Pearl Flash light weighted clousers worked best, in shallow water you don't need to sink fast and light weight means better presentation to sometimes spooky fish.

We found a school of Giant herring that could have fed Africa, one of the guys must have landed a dozen in as long as it takes to fight a dozen Giant Herring on steroids.

The Barra bit very well, a few days catching numbers I won't bother mentioning because those of you that haven't seen it will find it hard to believe.

Big Threadfin Salmon in the rivers and Blue Salmon out on the beaches topped off a trip to remember for a long time. Straight into at Hinchinbrook this week, will report on that next week.

Catch you next week.
Good fishing, Dave
